The fertiliser desk

Urea, DAP and MOP moved against long-term offtake as well as spot cargoes — one counterparty from contract to settlement, with independent inspection on both ends of the voyage.

Products

Three nutrients, one desk

NITROGEN

Urea

Granular and prilled urea, 46% N — the highest-volume fertiliser in world trade and the desk's largest flow.

PHOSPHATE

DAP

Diammonium phosphate, 18-46-0 — the reference phosphate product for planting and starter application.

POTASH

MOP

Muriate of potash, 60% K2O — the standard potassium source for broad-acre agriculture.

How supply is structured

Cargoes are sourced from producers whose standards the desk has verified, across the origins we cover — the Gulf, Asia, South America and Africa — and sold to industrial consumers and distributors in the markets we serve. Three contract forms cover most of the flow:

Specification parameters are contractual, not aspirational: independent surveyors verify quality and quantity at loading and at discharge, documents move under letters of credit or documentary collections, and settlement runs through the group's UAE banking infrastructure.

East Africa: beyond trading

Through the group's Agro & Resources division in Tanzania, the desk is present past the port: fertiliser import and in-country distribution for East African agriculture — a destination market served with the same contracting and inspection discipline.

Market context for these products — urea, phosphates, freight — is covered in our market notes.

Questions

Fertiliser supply: frequently asked

Which fertilisers does GIDEX supply?

Urea (46% N, granular and prilled), DAP (diammonium phosphate, 18-46-0) and MOP (muriate of potash, 60% K2O). Each has its own supply page: urea, DAP, MOP.

What is the difference between spot, term and offtake?

Spot is a single cargo against a fixed specification, price and laycan. Term covers multi-shipment contracts with agreed volumes, laycans and pricing formulas across a season or a year. Offtake is a long-term commitment against production — the structure behind the desk's core urea flow.

Where are cargoes sourced from?

From producers whose standards the desk has verified, across the origins we cover: the Gulf, Asia, South America and Africa. Quoting from more than one verified origin means supply does not hang on a single plant, port or season.

Is quality inspected independently?

Yes. Independent surveyors verify quality and quantity at loading and at discharge, documents move under letters of credit or documentary collections, and settlement runs through the group's UAE banking infrastructure.

Does GIDEX deliver into East Africa?

Yes. Through the group's Agro & Resources division in Tanzania the desk is present past the port: fertiliser import and in-country distribution for East African agriculture.
