Profertil urea revenue up 30% to $250m as Iran conflict lifts prices

Argentine producer Profertil reported a 30% year-on-year increase in urea revenue to $250 million for the first half of 2026, attributing the gain largely to higher nitrogen prices linked to the conflict involving Iran, a major gas and fertiliser exporter.

The disruption has tightened global urea supply and supported pricing across Latin America, benefiting regional producers who are not directly exposed to Middle East supply risk.

For nitrogen buyers, the result signals that geopolitical risk premiums embedded in urea prices remain elevated, with producers outside the affected region capturing margin upside. Buyers should watch for further price support if tensions persist, alongside potential supply reallocation as importers seek alternative sources to Iranian-origin product.

What it meansUrea buyers should expect continued price support from Iran-related supply risk, with non-Middle East producers like Profertil capturing margin; sourcing diversification away from Iranian-origin nitrogen may be prudent.
